October 14, 2007:  The Free Methodist Church of St. Regis Falls held its Centennial Celebration at 6 p.m. Sunday.  The community was invited to come celebrate the rich history of the church. There was sharing of memories and lots of music, both old and new. Refreshments followed the celebration.

The Free Methodist Church got its start in 1907, when it began through a tent meeting sponsored by the Holiness movement Church of Canada. In 1914, a barn was moved to St. Ann Street, where it was remodeled for use as a church facility, which the congregation used until 1979.

From its inception until 1959, the church was part of the Holiness Movement Church of Canada. In 1959, it merged with the Free Methodist Church of North America. In the late '70s, it became obvious that there was a need for new facilities, and a building program was launched under the leadership of the Rev. Philip C. Turner. The present building was built in 1979 and dedicated in 1980. Ronald W. VanLuven, a lay minister, was serving the church as pastor at the time and was instrumental in the construction of the new building.

For a good part of the church's history, a pastor was shared with Brandon Center. Since 1982, the church has been part of a Norwood-St. Regis Falls circuit and has been served by the Rev. Robert L. Billings.

Pastor Bob and LindaBoth he and his wife, Mrs. Linda Billings, minister in the two Free Methodist Churches located approximately 35 miles apart in rural upstate New York.  Mrs. Billings is organist in both our St. Regis Falls Free Methodist Church and our sister church, The Norwood Free Methodist Church.

Our congregations include age groups from "still-in-the-womb" to elderly saints. We have hardy souls who worship with us the year round, as well as "snow birds" who travel to other states during the winter months and return to worship with us when warmer weather returns to our North country!  You will find the people in our churches are friendly and caring.  Most of the outward attire is informal, with our "inward attire" being renewed day by day to conform to the image of our Savior and Lord Jesus.

God bless you abundantly with the Peace of His Presence...
Thank you for visiting, and come again soon!
